Job Description:

You will be responsible for developing and promoting the role of the library in the school, actively engaging in diversity and equality issues. Your duties include:

  • Collaborating closely with teaching staff to plan and deliver the information skills curriculum.
  • Promoting the effective and efficient use of the library and its resources.
  • Working with teachers to cultivate a love of reading among children.
  • Developing links with secondary schools to facilitate a smooth transition and a cohesive approach to library skills.
  • Managing the school library and its resources:
    • Selecting, acquiring, maintaining, and withdrawing library stock, ensuring a balance between subject and ability levels while actively engaging in diversity and equality issues.
    • Organizing, cataloging, and classifying library resources, both electronic and print-based.
    • Preparing financial estimates for the school library and managing the budget.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of children’s literature and resources to support the curriculum.
  • A librarian license is required.
  • Understanding of library and information skills.
  • Ability to innovate and think creatively.
  • Strategic thinking with a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to adapt to different audiences.
  • Proficiency in using library management systems and other ICT software.
